The Promising Writers Contest is dedicated to cultivating and celebrating the exceptional writing talents of students in grades 5-12

The Promising Writers Contest strives to empower the next generation of talented authors, journalists, and storytellers. Through their powerful words, we believe our students can make a lasting impact and inspire positive change in our school and beyond.
Aims and Objectives
Through this annual competition, we aim to

Inspire Creativity and Self-Expression
Provide a platform for students to share their unique perspectives, stories, and ideas through various creative writing genres.

Develop Essential Writing Skills
Foster the growth of critical thinking, effective communication, and polished writing abilities among participants.

Promote Academic Excellence
Encourage students to engage deeply with important social, environmental, and global themes through their written work.

Recognize Outstanding Achievement
Honor the most promising young writers and offer them meaningful opportunities for recognition and reward.

Build a Vibrant Writing Community
Create a supportive environment that nurtures the literary passions of students and inspires them to continue honing their craft.
Writing Categories
The contest features three main writing categories in English and Arabic
Short Story
Poetry
Essay & Article
These categories allow students to showcase their abilities across different creative and analytical writing genres.
Age Divisions
The contest is divided into three age-based divisions to ensure fair and equal evaluation
Category 1
Grades 5-6 (6 finalists from each school)
Category 2
Grades 7-9 (6 finalists from each school)
Category 3
Grades 10-12 (6 finalists from each school)
This structure enables the judges to assess entries from students at similar developmental and skill levels.
Writing Prompts
To inspire creativity and address important themes, the contest provides distinct writing prompts for each age division
Category 1 (Grade 5-6)
- (Max. 500 words)
- The Day Animals Could Talk
- Imagine you woke up one day and animals could suddenly speak. Write a story about your adventure that day.
- A Message in a Bottle
- You find a mysterious bottle on the beach with a note inside. What does it say? What happens next?
- The Magical Door in My School
- One day you discover a hidden door in your school. Where does it lead? Describe your adventure.
- My One Day as a Superhero
- You wake up with a superpower of your choice—but just for one day! What do you do with it?
- The Day I Got Stuck in a Video Game
- You’ve been pulled into your favorite video game world. What do you see, and how do you get out?
Category 2&3 (Grade 7-9 and 10-12)
Write a short story (Max. 1000 words), an essay (Max. 500 words), or a poem about one of the following topics.
- Small Actions, Big Impact: My Role in Saving the Planet (SDG ?)
- The World in 2050: My Vision for the Future
- The World Through an Animal’s Eyes
- Is Artificial Intelligence a Threat or a Tool?
- How Technology Changed the Way I Learn
- My Community, My Responsibility
- Respecting Differences: What I’ve Learned
- What Makes Me Feel Safe and Heard
Students can choose one of these themes to base their entry on.
Contest Rules
Submission Guidelines
To ensure fairness and quality, the contest has the following submission requirements:
-One entry per participant
-All submissions must be original work
-Short stories have a maximum word count of 1000 words, essays a max of 500 words
-Plagiarism and excessive violence/language will result in disqualification
Key Dates
Deadline to apply: November 20, 2025
Submitting the writings: November 20, 2025
Competition date: November 29, 2025
Judging Criteria
Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
-Relevance and connection to the given theme
-Creativity, originality, and imagination
-Effective writing style, organization, and flow
-Proper grammar, spelling, and mechanics
Final Day Presentation Criteria:
1- Organization: 15
2- Explanatory Skills: 15
3- Fluency: 10
4- Rapport with audience members: 10
Your final score will be the sum of 50% of your writing assignment score and 50% of your presentation score.
Awards
To celebrate the top writers, the contest offers the following prizes and recognition
1st place: 900 LE, medal, and certificate
2nd place: 750 LE, medal, and certificate
3rd place: 600 LE, medal, and certificate
All participants/finalists: Certificate of participation
The grand finale event on November 29, 2025, will provide an opportunity for winners to present their work and be publicly recognized.
